Summary

Discover “the stories America needs to hear” (Admiral William H。 McRaven, US Navy (Ret。)) with these moving and powerful recollections of war, told by the men and women who lived them。

Walk in my Combat Boots is a powerful collection crafted from hundreds of original interviews by James Patterson, the world’s #1 bestselling writer, and First Sergeant US Army (Ret。) Matt Eversmann, part of the Ranger unit portrayed in the movie Black Hawk Down。

These are the brutally honest stories usually only shared amongst comrades in arms。 Here, in the voices of the men and women who’ve fought overseas from Vietnam to Iraq and Afghanistan, is a rare eye-opening look into what wearing the uniform, fighting in combat, losing friends and coming home is really like。 Readers who next thank a military member for their service will finally have a true understanding of what that thanks is for

Every single person in America should read this book。 For all her faults and mistakes, this Country has learned from them and constantly improved。 That is one of the many things that inspire men and women to serve and sacrifice。 Great book。

I got alot from reading this, and not in the conventional way most readers would think。

A must read! To hear what our brave men and women have been through for our freedom puts our lives as US citizens in a whole new perspective。 This should be read by everyone!

Real life stories you will never hear on the news。 Take the time to read about how our service men and women deal with life, loss, service and reintegration !!!!

James Patterson writes excellent non fiction too。 This book was a compendium of stories about US Servicemen and women in our Armed Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq。 It is an enlightening read about the horrors of war。 I'm grateful the US now has a volunteer army with soldiers who choose to serve our country in the armed forces。 James Patterson writes excellent non fiction too。 This book was a compendium of stories about US Servicemen and women in our Armed Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq。 It is an enlightening read about the horrors of war。 I'm grateful the US now has a volunteer army with soldiers who choose to serve our country in the armed forces。 。。。more

A wide variety of mini interviews of military personnel and what they face in battle and what they face on the home-front after their return。 Some very poignant responses - some very disturbing experiences that those that have never served may not understand,

This book broke my heart in so many different ways。 My respect and heart goes out to all the soldiers who have served our country and those who continue to serve it。This book tells stories of different service branches and ranks。 There’s was a point where I thought I couldn’t finish this book, not because I didn’t like it, but because everything that these service members go though is heartbreaking。

Incredible stories from our military heroes who keep us safe。 Huge kudos to the men and women who risk their lives every minute in super challenging environments。

Very inspiring from true heroes。 I feel like a coward compared to these people and am honored to live in a country defended by these selfless people。 Would have liked a little more of a complete story from a few of these soldiers。

I enjoyed reading about the different brave men and women who signed up to defend our country。 It explores why they joined the military and a story or two about their experiences。 These are everyday citizens that made the sacrifice to serve our country。 It's sad when you read their struggles to adjust back into civilian life。 They are true American heroes, and we should do everything we can to make sure they get the help they need when they come back from service。 I enjoyed reading about the different brave men and women who signed up to defend our country。 It explores why they joined the military and a story or two about their experiences。 These are everyday citizens that made the sacrifice to serve our country。 It's sad when you read their struggles to adjust back into civilian life。 They are true American heroes, and we should do everything we can to make sure they get the help they need when they come back from service。 。。。more

S。 Smith's ReviewThe book。was hard to finish because there is a lot about the military I don't understand。 I do think it was well-written, with James Patterson as one of the authors。 I gave the book a 3- star rating because it didn't hold my interest as much as I thought it would。 S。 Smith's ReviewThe book。was hard to finish because there is a lot about the military I don't understand。 I do think it was well-written, with James Patterson as one of the authors。 I gave the book a 3- star rating because it didn't hold my interest as much as I thought it would。 。。。more

This book is an eye opener。 I have two nephews that are in the military。 After reading this book, I understand them better and how they feel。 They have both been deployed。 One to Kuwait and the other one who has become a medic just got back from Estes of Arabia。 So thankful for their service!

James Patterson and First Sergeant (Retired) Eversmann pull together raw and revealing firsthand experiences of service members。 All of them are important reminders of the sacrifice our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines make to ensure our nation's freedom。 A must read! Reading this left me with so many questions I’d like to ask my son。 I’m so proud that he’s serving and seems to be the man he wants to be, yet I’d like to be able for him to share his experiences of deployments with me。 I feel I know so little after each of these stories。

As a service member, I have read quite a few memoirs from the War on Terror。 When I received this book as a gift, I figured it would be just like the other memoirs I had read, depicting the journey of different service members as they deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan。 I could not have been more wrong。 This book is so much more as it is not just about combat。 This book is about service in that it discusses what it means to serve and why people choose to do it。 It has stories from all branches of As a service member, I have read quite a few memoirs from the War on Terror。 When I received this book as a gift, I figured it would be just like the other memoirs I had read, depicting the journey of different service members as they deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan。 I could not have been more wrong。 This book is so much more as it is not just about combat。 This book is about service in that it discusses what it means to serve and why people choose to do it。 It has stories from all branches of service, components (active duty and reserve), and different jobs within the military。 There are stories of those that felt guilt for never going to combat, those that were first responders on 9/11, those remembering friends and family on memorial day, and much more。 If I were to recommend any book to people that have never served and want to know what it is like, this would be the one。 。。。more

I grew up during the Viet Nam war。 I was so very thankful that I was female and wouldn't be drafted as so many of our soldiers were。。。 It was a hellish war, for so many。 Even today the warriors are suffering from that era。 Well written, heartbreaking, and informative。 Thank you for such an insightful novel, l am proud of those who served and still serve, voluntarily today。 A must read for our proud service of men and women, past and present。 I grew up during the Viet Nam war。 I was so very thankful that I was female and wouldn't be drafted as so many of our soldiers were。。。 It was a hellish war, for so many。 Even today the warriors are suffering from that era。 Well written, heartbreaking, and informative。 Thank you for such an insightful novel, l am proud of those who served and still serve, voluntarily today。 A must read for our proud service of men and women, past and present。 。。。more

I picked this up to read on my long flight home on Memorial Day。 I thought it would be fitting on this holiday to remember our fallen veterans。 I was riveted。 I read almost the entire book during my two flight segments home and it made the time go by much more quickly。 So many different stories, responses to being in war, and the unfathomable situations these men and women faced was eye opening for me。 Thanks to every one of these people for their service and let us never forget all those who ne I picked this up to read on my long flight home on Memorial Day。 I thought it would be fitting on this holiday to remember our fallen veterans。 I was riveted。 I read almost the entire book during my two flight segments home and it made the time go by much more quickly。 So many different stories, responses to being in war, and the unfathomable situations these men and women faced was eye opening for me。 Thanks to every one of these people for their service and let us never forget all those who never made it home。 。。。more

True stories of the men and women who signed up to defend our country。Superbly written。 Thank you veterans for your service!

Enjoyed reading the stories, it gives a very realistic and respectable view on war but lakes any real structure or personal reasoning for the choices。 Overall an easy read that often reminded me of the harsh realities we choose to numb during our working days。

Kevin Quinn

The stories in this book were riveting, heartbreaking, and real。 Unlike so many movies we see, this book tells us the real life our soldiers live before, during, and after their service。
